
The concept of biofabrication began in the early 2000s when a bioengineer with the University of Texas at El Paso, used an HP inkjet printer to print a bioink made from living bovine cells.
Since then, scientists have expanded their research, with projects including artificial blood vessels, corneas, cartilage, skin, and even more complex organs like lungs and kidneys.
