The Year 2020 forced all offline companies to go online, giving rise to massive competition in 2021. Now, everyone is scrambling to rank high on Google. It’s become really difficult for marketers to help companies stand out. Do you think marketers would use the same strategies in the future as they are using now?

Hey everyone, I am Pratibha Verma, a Digital Marketing Intern at the International Institute of Digital Marketing, and today I am going to talk about “Top 5 digital marketing trends that will make marketers change their strategies.”

No 1 --Marketers, who are devoting a lot of time now, to understand consumer behavior, so that they can offer them customized solutions, would have to rethink their strategies as customization would become the thing of the past. Consumers would expect brands to know what they are going to buy next, “according to Forbes.

So, the consumers would stick to only those companies that would predict consumers’ next purchase, which means companies would tell consumers what they want to buy next instead of consumers telling them.

No 2 ---- Social Media shopping has surged dramatically since the beginning of the pandemic, and it continues to grow in popularity. Online shoppers purchase from social media channels like Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, or Snapchat. On these platforms, sellers can showcase their products, and buyers can have a seamless shopping experience from discovering the product to researching and purchasing it.

This trend would affect retail companies and their marketing strategies in the future.

No 3---- Companies would limit their social media channels to only relevant ones. They would see which ones are helping them achieve their goals and maintain a good relationship with their customers. More social media channels would not mean more return on investment. Therefore, irrelevant ones would be out.

No 4--- Pandemic gave a boost to Augmented Reality. According to ThinkMobile’s 2020 report, over 50% of smartphone users use Augmented Reality applications at the time of purchasing. This advanced technology enables consumers to try out products from anywhere using their camera and monitor.

AR gives digital information overlaid on the real world. For example, we can see the names of the stars, planets, and constellations if we overlay our smartphones with the sky by using Google SkyMap. With AR in demand, marketers would have to change their ads from photoshop to real-time product narrative.

No 5-- Although face-to-face interactions in physical events always leave a lasting impression, virtual events are considered more beneficial now. Thanks to the technology that enables a large audience to attend the event. Virtual events cut down the company’s cost and help it to have a larger reach.

The key to marketers is to be more creative in driving engagement. They can do that by creating engaging narratives which would give the audience a good experience.
