Myanmar military government accused of arresting doctors as COVID cases soar

Cases of COVID-19 are surging in Myanmar and the healthcare system is not only overstretched but under fire.

According to medical professionals, doctors are being arrested while soldiers are turning some patients away from hospitals.

The United Nations independent expert on human rights in Myanmar has called for a “COVID-ceasefire” – urging the international community to pressure the military government to stop its attacks on healthcare workers so that they can deliver medical care.

The names in this report have been changed to protect people's identities.
