State Dept. sending official to manage evacuation

The State Department said it was sending John Bass, a former ambassador to Afghanistan, to manage the evacuation operation in Kabul, as the Taliban have assured "safe passage' for civilians seeking to leave Afghanistan. (Aug. 17)
