Storytelling in Pathfinder 2e: Pathfinder's First Rule (& Choosing Your Tools as a Game Master)

Hello Travelers & Tourists!

Welcome to my series for Game Masters:

Storytelling in Pathfinder 2e!

In this series, we will be exploring the content, advice, mechanics, options, & inspiration found in the Gamemastery Guide for Pathfinder 2e. From time-to-time, I may also pull into Game Master content from other Pathfinder 2e products as well.

The goal is simple, but important: to help Storytellers of all skill levels improve their craft (in general) and their skill with Pathfinder 2e as a game (in specific). I believe that a lot of people have fantastic stories to tell - they just need some support to help tell them.

That's what I want this series to be!

Also, please note: while I am focusing this Storytelling series on Pathfinder 2e content, a lot of the advice & inspiration Paizo offers applies well across multiple games & storytelling genres! So, even if Pathfinder 2e isn't your first choice of game, stick around! You may find inspiration for your game of choice as well!

Today, we're going to continue looking at some of the important advice contained in the Introduction of the Game Mastery Guide:

The First Rule of Pathfinder (& by expansion, the concept of "Tool Selection" for Storytellers).

Even though Pathfinder 2e is a mechanically deep game, it is important to remember that (according to the game's authors) 2e is YOUR game & you are entitled to play it YOUR way. We talk about what that means for Storytellers & why it is okay for a Pathfinder 2e GM to feel free to play around with the rules of the game as they see fit.
