Sunday AM tropics: Hurricane Sam a cat. 4, to stay major through Thursday

Eye on the Tropics

There are no tropical threats to the Gulf of Mexico and just one active storm in the Atlantic as of early Sunday.

Hurricane Sam is a small but intense hurricane. It's a Category 4 hurricane, and it is forecast to remain a major hurricane through at least Thursday. It will curve north around a ridge of high pressure and stay well east-northeast of the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean Sea.

Teresa was a brief subtropical storm which has nearly dissipated. It's a post-tropical system and will soon open up into a trough of low pressure.
