The Doors - Riders on the Storm (Sunset Sound Version - Original Demo)

The Doors’ longtime producer Paul Rothchild famously quit on the band during the recording of L.A. Woman referring to the new songs as “cocktail” music, which created an opportunity for the band to relocate to their rehearsal studio to record the album themselves with longtime engineer Bruce Botnick. This is the earliest known recording of “Riders on The Storm,” recorded at Sunset Sound Studios in those early days available for the first time on The 50th Anniversary Deluxe Version of The Doors’ iconic L.A. Woman, available December 3, 2021. Pre-order or pre-save the album now at https://thedoors.lnk.to/50LAWoman

The L.A. Woman 50th Anniversary Deluxe Version is a 1LP/3-CD collection featuring the original album lovingly remastered by Bruce Botnick, as well as two-hours of studio sessions and demos that illuminate the process that delivered The Doors’ top selling album, including this track and an early demo of “Hyacinth House” recorded at Robby’s house.

The Doors channel is the official YouTube home of classic Doors live performances, The Doors albums, and contemporary performances and content honoring The Doors featuring John Densmore and Robby Krieger.

With an intoxicating, genre-blending sound, provocative and uncompromising songs, and the mesmerizing power of singer Jim Morrison’s poetry and presence, The Doors had a transformative impact not only on popular music but on popular culture.

The Doors’ arrival on the rock scene in 1967 marked not only the start of a string of hit singles and albums that would become classics, but also of something much bigger – a new and deeper relationship between creators and audience. Refusing to be mere entertainers, the Los Angeles quartet relentlessly challenged, confronted and inspired their fans, leaping headfirst into the heart of darkness while other bands warbled about peace and love. Though they’ve had scores of imitators, there’s never been another band quite like them.
