Sustained-Silent Reading (SSR) for Adult Learners: Dedicate Time for this Beneficial Strategy

Session Summary: While many K-12 educators incorporate SSR into their lesson plans, adult educators might not realize the benefit of implementing this strategy with their students. In this presentation, the presenter will give a review of the literature, share anecdotal evidence from informal surveys and interviews and provide some online reading resources.

Presenter Bio: Melissa Hauke is the ESOL support teacher at West Potomac Academy in Alexandria, VA. She is a career educator with over 25 years of experience teaching young learners, teenagers and adults. She is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and English Language Fellow. Her current professional interest is adult education.
