Before the pandemic, about half of all applicants who were invited from the Express Entry pool were Federal Skilled Workers. Since March 2020, Express Entry draws have primarily targeted individuals who are possibly already in Canada. Since COVID-19 cases have started to decrease, when can we anticipate Canada to resume inviting Federal Skilled Worker applicants once again?
Express Entry Draw Trends 2021
Express Entry draws are held roughly every two weeks. For the majority of the year, these draws usually focus on the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) applicants on Wednesdays, and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) applicants the next day. Two weeks later, the pattern repeats.
Previous Federal Skilled Worker Draws
Canada began conducting targeted CEC and PNP-specific draws in March 2020. Travel restrictions curbing non-essential travel were in position for most of this period, including the landing procedure for new permanent residents. When the number of COVID-19 cases began to decrease, the Canadian government quickly resumed the Federal Skilled Worker draws between July and December 2020. These all-program draws were some of the biggest held since the beginning of the program.
