This presentation provides an overview of key regulatory and quality considerations when selecting active pharmaceutical ingredients for use in compounded preparations. The Drug Quality and Security Act (DQSA) established guidance on what can be used in compounded preparation. DQSA ingredient selection is based in quality and safety considerations. Pharmacists and pharmacy technical staff , need to understand the principles that underpin DQSA and how to apply these principles to evaluate not only the active ingredient but critical components of the supply chain.
