TF Chain enables autonomous and self-healing grid capabilities

ThreeFold co-founder Weynand Kuijpers dives into TF Chain, a "notebook" that was built to contain, store, and always have available space to store workload definitions and smart contracts in. TF Chain is built on Polkadot Substrate technology, as it is incredibly scalable. And scalability is key for ThreeFold and our vision to bring peer-to-peer Internet to all corners of the world.

So, we have adopted a technology to be able to run multiple chains for multiple groups of servers. This is the way we will allow all of the 3Nodes on the grid to find what they need to be doing and for all the value transaction (payments) to happen as well.

But why do we do this in the blockchain for grid operations? A blockchain has two important elements: 1. Every data that is committed to a blockchain is immutable, it cannot change, and 2. The data being committed to a blockchain is always-append – every new piece of data will be linked to previous blocks of data.

Once we start a workload and define a workload, it is there forever. And once it is changed, the original information and the change are both there. The history of all changes is there, forever. So if and when a particular workload fails, restarting it is as easy as going back in time, reading the whole definition, and restarting the missing components.

If you combine these two elements (immutability and append-only), you have created the unique aspect of where we can find autonomous operations and self-healing capabilities.
