Health Minister Greg Hunt says the vaccination targets set out are now "within sight".
"First doses are at 56 per cent, or 11.55 million," Mr Hunt said on Friday.
"There is a very important point here which I think we are now in a position to reflect upon."
In order to achieve the 70 per cent vaccination target, Mr Hunt said 14.5 million vaccinations will be needed.
"Another three million Australians to get to the first dose 70 per cent mark," he said.
"In order to achieve the 80 per cent mark, we need to have approximately 16.5 million Australians 16+ vaccinated.
"So that's less than five million to go from where we are in order to achieve the 80 per cent first dose mark, and of course the second doses follows that.
"But that is a sign that we are closing, that these goals are within sight."
