Pet Parenting – Quick pet-kids guide to Acceptable and Not Acceptable behavior when meeting people.
This is how my dogs treat their loved ones when they meet them after a long time.
Is this acceptable behavior? – Yes
Is this bad behavior? – Yes
So, why did I say “Yes” to both.
The reason is that the answer is dependent on the behavior itself.
This is bad behavior and not acceptable if this is done to every guest who enters your home. Most guest would not want to experience this, and they will get scared, overwhelmed or uncomfortable when they see all your dogs jumping towards them and every guest will feel this as a nuisance.
But if this behavior is only reserved for people that the dogs love and have not met for some time, then as per me, this is acceptable. If my dogs doesn’t show excitement, love and happiness, for the people they love and have missed, then I rather get a robot. People like this are special people (my loved ones) and they already know that this is how they will be greeted when they enter and hence, they are ready. However, it is also the Human alpha’s responsibility to ensure that the dogs don’t get too carried away with their excitement and end up being a nuisance. Excitement is good but must be moderated by the human alpha in the house.
If your home does not have a Human Alpha, then you are in trouble!!!
