Video shared on social media showed recent returnees scuffling with police in southern China’s Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport over the enforcement of mandatory quarantine rules for inbound travellers from abroad.
Several posts shared on social media platforms said that the dispute erupted over the enforcement of on-arrival quarantine procedures for returnees, which require five days in a designated quarantine facility, then three days at the returnee’s residence. One of the posts mentioned that the returnees were students and tourists who wanted to avoid quarantine requirements ahead of January 8, when such restrictions for inbound travellers arriving from abroad will also be lifted.
